7 Sheffield Area Restaurants in 2008 Harden's Food Guide

SHEFFIELD was snubbed by the Good Food Guide last year which could only find TWO restaurants worthy of mention.  But rival guide Harden’s, which is also based on diners reports, lists SEVEN Sheffield Area restaurants.
Martin Dawes from The Sheffield Star reports.  It also casts its net wider than the GFG, awarding stars for good cooking to Rafters on Oakbrook Road and the Bahn Nah Thai restaurant at Broomhill, with mentions for Artisan at Crosspool, the Kashmir Curry Centre on Spital Hill, Moran’s at Dore and Nirmals Indian restaurant on Glossop Road and also lists Tessa Bramley’s Michelin Star rated restaurant The Old Vicarage.
Outside the city, three restaurants are listed in Baslow: Fischer’s, Rowley’s and the Cavendish, all with stars, while the Walnut Club in Hathersage also gets an entry.  But Dawes say's about the report "There are a few stings in the tail." quoting Harden's statement “Even those who rate the food as outstanding can find it notably overpriced.”
There are also mentions for Hassop Hall, near Bakewell (“a culinary time warp”), the Monsal Head Hotel which gets a star for cooking and an award for the view, and the Druid Inn at Birchover.
The China Rose at Bawtry is also listed as “the best place to eat round Doncaster.”  More from Martin Dawes
Harden’s, which is based on almost 100,000 reports from 8,000 diners, claims half as many entries again as the Good Food Guide. It costs £14.99.
