Thu 30th May 13 Food Foraging Walk @ Heeley City Farm

Food foraging is gaining in popularity - join us on a guided walk around the Farm in the company of food foraging guru Patrick Harding identifying what plants can be safely eaten. Discover the different culinary uses for plants which we normally wouldn't consider using as 'food'; dandelions, chick weed and nettles for example can be delicious, and free, additions to our meals. Patrick will identify such plants on the Farm and on it's surrounding green spaces. Finishing time is approximate.

Meeting outside The Farm Kitchen
6.30pm  - 8pm Approx
Tickets are £7 from the main office ( cheaper) or you can buy online from our Eventbrite page (plus a booking fee but more convenient), the ticket fees are part of our fund raising efforts.

Thu 30th May 13 NOSH Night Market

Old Junior School, South View Road, Sharrow, Sheffield, S7 1DB

Thursday 30th May 2013, 5pm to 10pm

£2 on the door (£1 with NUS card before 6pm)

https://www.facebook.com/events/333324726794413/

Building on the popularity of the previous two events, NOSH night market is returning for its third event at the Old Junior School in Sharrow. The outdoor playground area will host the street food element. This time, there will be culinary offerings from the likes of Fish& - which offers fish n’ chips with a twist,  Soi Truck Thai – which offers Thai street food, and Diamond Dogs – which offers gourmet hot dogs to go. Hop Box, which serves beer from an old horse cart, will be serving a range of craft beer including Ilkley Brewery’s new pale ale, Dinner Ale. Tamper will also be on board to offer coffee cocktails…

While in the old school canteen, Three Bears Kitchen will be launching its ‘Bear Pit pop-up dirty burger bar’. Alongside this will be an array of market stalls. Expect to see tie-dye clothing, loose leaf teas, jewellery, crochet items and much more, including Sheffield creative collective, Knife and Folk

Alongside the stalls, will be Sheffield LETS – a Local Exchange Trading Scheme where community-based mutual aid networks exchange all kinds of goods and services with one another, without the need for money, but by using ‘Stones’…

Also in the canteen area, will be Article 25’s 10x10, an open exhibition and charity auction asking 100 creative people to use their artistic talents to represent an area of Sheffield. Participants may represent their area in whatever media they choose, whether that’s a piece of visual art, a poem, or something totally unique.

There will also be live music, from acoustic, folk and acapella, from Mimi O’Malley & Glenn McDougall, Ben Walker Band, Rowan Colver, Chikka Moyo, and The 3 Bints. And free Zumba classes will be on offer in the outside playground area for those looking for something more energetic. There will also be live street art happening in the playground.

Profit from the ticket sales will go towards the Sharrow Lantern Carnival and Sharrow Festival.

Wed 19th Jun 13 Italian classics come to the Devonshire Arms at Middle Handley

AN authentic taste of the Mediterranean comes to the Devonshire Arms at Middle Handley on June 19 with the award-winning pub and restaurant’s first Italian Evening.

Head chef Tom Lawson has created a menu based on some of the finest Italian flavours for the three course-celebration of the nation’s culinary heritage.

A choice of three starters, with prices starting at £6.50, includes a classic antipasto for two, carpaccio of Ridgeway beef with wild rocket and aged parmesan or a simple dish of heritage tomatoes with basil, mozzarella and balsamic.

The main courses start from £12.50 and include roast Moss Valley pork cutlet served with a porchetta and berlotti bean stew, pan fried fillet of red mullet served with herb gnocchi, broad beans, asparagus, Yorkshire blue cheese and crispy parma ham, shin of beef ragu with
pappardelle, parmesan and white truffle oil, a duo of Rabbit with stuffed saddle, leg raviolo, wilted spinach, charred baby leek, and white bean purée or tiger prawn and scallop linguine with slow roast tomatoes and chilli sauce.

Anybody who still has room for dessert can choose from a classic tiramisu, Amalfi lemon tart or pistachio parfait. Prices start at £5.25.

Illy coffee will be served with amaretti bicuits, along with limoncello, Disarrono and grappa and a full wine list will feature an extensive list of reds, whites and sparklings, all available by the glass.

“Our aim is to create a genuine taste of some of Europe’s finest flavours and demonstrate that there’s more to Italian cuisine than simple pasta and pizza,” said manager Alistair Myers.

“But as ever, our head chef Tom has taken great pride in sourcing his ingredients locally, a guarantee of freshness and quality.”

Demand is expected to be high and early booking is recommended. For reservations visit www.devonshirearmsmiddlehandley.com or call 01246 434800

Tue 25th Jun 13 Pop-Up Pudding Club Picnic

A supper club with a twist…it’s a pudding club! Missing out the main course and going straight to the best bit…pudding!
Following the fantastic success of our previous four Pudding Clubs we are delighted to announce that our next Pop Up Pudding Club will be held on Tuesday 25th June at JG Graves Woodland Discovery Centre in Ecclesall Woods.
The theme for the event is picnic so guests are welcome to bring their picnic blankets and chairs. We’ve secured the lawn area so lets hope we can secure some sunshine to go with it. Of course we have a plan B so there won’t be any soggy puddings if the great British summer isn’t the long hot summer we’re all hoping for!
There will be four picnic inspired puddings from hosts Coco Catering and a delicious pudding from a surprise guest chef.

• Pop-up Puddings is hosted by Coco Catering’s Blanche & Richard Spataro and Seven Hill’s WI member Anna Tebble.
• Previous events have been held at the Fire & Police Museum, the Lantern Theatre, Hagglers Corner and Cocoa Chocolate Wonderland
• Pop-up Puddings aim to hold four events a year at unique venues in Sheffield
• Tickets for events at £15 and are available through eventbrite
• Booking is essential as there are limited spaces
