Wed 19th Jun 13 Italian classics come to the Devonshire Arms at Middle Handley

 

AN authentic taste of the Mediterranean comes to the Devonshire Arms at Middle Handley on June 19 with the award-winning pub and restaurant’s first Italian Evening.

 

Head chef Tom Lawson has created a menu based on some of the finest Italian flavours for the three course-celebration of the nation’s culinary heritage.

 

A choice of three starters, with prices starting at £6.50, includes a classic antipasto for two, carpaccio of Ridgeway beef with wild rocket and aged parmesan or a simple dish of heritage tomatoes with basil, mozzarella and balsamic.

 

The main courses start from £12.50 and include roast Moss Valley pork cutlet served with a porchetta and berlotti bean stew, pan fried fillet of red mullet served with herb gnocchi, broad beans, asparagus, Yorkshire blue cheese and crispy parma ham, shin of beef ragu with
pappardelle, parmesan and white truffle oil, a duo of Rabbit with stuffed saddle, leg raviolo, wilted spinach, charred baby leek, and white bean purée or tiger prawn and scallop linguine with slow roast tomatoes and chilli sauce.
 

Anybody who still has room for dessert can choose from a classic tiramisu, Amalfi lemon tart or pistachio parfait. Prices start at £5.25.

Illy coffee will be served with amaretti bicuits, along with limoncello, Disarrono and grappa and a full wine list will feature an extensive list of reds, whites and sparklings, all available by the glass.
 

“Our aim is to create a genuine taste of some of Europe’s finest flavours and demonstrate that there’s more to Italian cuisine than simple pasta and pizza,” said manager Alistair Myers.

“But as ever, our head chef Tom has taken great pride in sourcing his ingredients locally, a guarantee of freshness and quality.”

A supper club with a twist…it’s a pudding club! Missing out the main course and going straight to the best bit…pudding!
Following the fantastic success of our previous four Pudding Clubs we are delighted to announce that our next Pop Up Pudding Club will be held on Tuesday 25th June at JG Graves Woodland Discovery Centre in Ecclesall Woods.
The theme for the event is picnic so guests are welcome to bring their picnic blankets and chairs. We’ve secured the lawn area so lets hope we can secure some sunshine to go with it. Of course we have a plan B so there won’t be any soggy puddings if the great British summer isn’t the long hot summer we’re all hoping for!
There will be four picnic inspired puddings from hosts Coco Catering and a delicious pudding from a surprise guest chef.

• Pop-up Puddings is hosted by Coco Catering’s Blanche & Richard Spataro and Seven Hill’s WI member Anna Tebble.
• Previous events have been held at the Fire & Police Museum, the Lantern Theatre, Hagglers Corner and Cocoa Chocolate Wonderland
• Pop-up Puddings aim to hold four events a year at unique venues in Sheffield 
• Tickets for events at £15 and are available through eventbrite
• Booking is essential as there are limited spaces

Wed 3rd Jul 13 Burgers for Independence Day @ Devonshire Arms

CELEBRATE American Independence Day with the food that made a nation great at The Devonshire Arms Middle Handley.

 

The award winning pub and restaurant actually gets in ahead of the competition by hosting its Independence Day festivities a day early on July 3.

 

But the taste choices are pure Americana as award winning head chef Tom Lawson delivers some Stateside classics at his special American Burger Evening.

 

There’s a starter combo platter that includes sticky ribs, mozzarella dippers, southern fried wings, onion rings and garlic mushrooms.

 

The big attraction in the main courses will be the classic New Yorker, a quarter pound beef burger with BBQ sauce, bacon, cheese, iceberg lettuce and tomato, or the Texas Ranch, a double quarter pound beef burger served with bacon, blue cheese, onion rings, ranch dressing, jalepenos and iceberg lettuce.

 

Other main course choices include the Kentucky, a southern fried chicken breast with spicy mayonnaise, iceberg lettuce and tomato, the Boston Bay Shrimp, a shrimp burger with  lettuce, crab mayonnaise and tomato or the LA Falafel, spiced falafel with mint yoghurt, roasted peppers and iceberg lettuce.

 

In true American style, all the mains are served with fries and coleslaw.

 

Rounding the evening off, desserts include Mississippi Mud Pie or Keyline Pie, both served with vanilla ice cream or pouring cream.

 

Two courses cost £17 while the full three courses cost just £20, with a £2 supplement for the Texas Ranch.
