Can you cook up a storm in the kitchen?
As part of Sheffield City Hall’s 80th Birthday celebrations and the Sheffield Food Festival, City Hall is set to host its first ever catering competition to find a local, creative, up and coming chef.
Having garnered an award winning reputation for banqueting and fine dining experiences Sheffield City Hall is offering the local community the chance to showcase their talents and transform their favourite dish into an option on one of the City Hall’s VIP menus.
Applicants will gain experience of cooking in a professional kitchen under the guidance of Head Chef, Andrew Ward, discovering skills to help improve their cooking techniques and friendly advice along the way. Entrants will battle it out for a place in the live finals hosted during the Sheffield Food Festival on Sunday 16th September. Plus the winner will get to experience their dish with a special VIP night out at a show of their choice.
As a local company, celebrating 80 years in the heart of Sheffield, we believe that the use of locally sourced produce is fundamentally important, not only to deliver the best possible quality food but also to support businesses, our local economy and the environment. The competition has been designed to celebrate these factors and we would like to see candidates interpreting this theme into their dish, where possible.
To enter, applicants just need to go to www.sheffieldcityhall.co.uk/80thbirthday
fill in an entry form and tell us what signature dish they would like to cook in an hour and why. Alternatively paper entry forms are also available to collect from the Sheffield City Hall Box Office.
The deadline for entries is Tuesday 31st July 2012 and will be assessed by Sheffield City Hall’s Food and Beverage Manager before going through to the live final which will be judged by the audience and a panel of judges.

Fri 29th Jun 12 Pop up restaurant at The Farm Kitchen
The latest pop up restaurant at The Farm Kitchen is on Fri 29th June; book asap as our last Spanish Night sold out quickly.
Contact Alison/Julie on 0114 2580244 for more details or to book. £17.99 per head and a free glass of Pimms for everyone!!!!
This is a new venture for us - Alison trained in France for a year and is putting her skills to the test outside of the usual community cafe daytime opening times.
At our first evening, Greek Night, we had the following comments from diners
" I would easily pay £25 for this not £15, because the food is excellent, service is warm and friendly and I feel I am coming for an evening out not just a meal" Paul Cocker from Manchester
" I can't believe I was given a wheat free chocolate mousse for dessert, just because Alison knew I was wheat intorelant - it was beautiful"
"The atmosphere works and it looks really lovely from outside"
"You wouldn't believe that we are sat in the middle of a community farm."
"we had a discussion about how the atmosphere felt and we decided that it was like the Underground Dining Scene in New York where people would turn there homes into restaurants for the evening."
"One thing that really astonished me was that I had never realised the 'open kitchen' before and once the context in the cafe changed to the evening setting it really made this evident. To see the professionalism and feel the buzz of the kitchen really added to the evening." Lee Pearse
