Restaurant of the Year ~ About the award
The Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year Award recognises excellence and good service at restaurants, pubs and cafés throughout the UK.
It is awarded to an independently owned establishment, one that uses local produce and offers regional dishes and top class customer service. Members of the public nominate their favourite local restaurants for one of ten regions. The regions are: Scotland/North East/North West/Midlands/East England/South West/South East/London/Wales/Northern Ireland
Nominations open on 1st March and close on 21st April 2010.
By early May, we will announce the winning restaurant for each region. All of the restaurants will receive an award and appear in the next edition of The Good Food Guide.
The winning restaurants will also be invited to the esteemed Which? awards ceremony to be held in London in May 2010.
The Good Food Guide team will pick one overall winner from the ten regional restaurants, and that establishment will be crowned ‘The Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year’ at the Which? awards event.
Elizabeth Carter, The Good Food Guide’s consultant editor, says: ‘There are hundreds of culinary gems right across the UK, and this is your chance to shout about the best of the best. We want to hear from you if your local restaurant goes the extra mile to make you feel special while serving up delicious food every time you visit.'
Criteria for nominations
The Good Food Guide champions local, independent restaurants and wants to encourage chefs to use local dishes and produce.
For this reason, the award is only open to restaurants that fit those criteria, though we do of course recognise excellent chain establishments in our guide.
In line with this year's Which? Awards theme of 'Who cares, wins', The Good Food Guide team are also looking for restaurants where the customer service is top class.
All nominations must be made by members of the public; not restaurant owners or staff.
Why your nomination matters
Every nomination is important during the voting period. It will also be used as feedback for compiling the next edition of The Good Food Guide.
