Fri 16th Mar 12 Owlerton Greyhound Stadium ‘Best in Show’ in hygiene stakes
Owlerton Greyhound Stadium has been awarded ‘best in show’ in the Government’s national food hygiene rating scheme, Scores on the Doors, after achieving the highest possible mark on its hygiene standards.
The accreditation, awarded by environmental health officials from Sheffield City Council, means that the Stadium is now ranked in the top 25% of all food establishments in the city.
The Stadium, which caters for up to 1,000 people each race night, was awarded the accolade following a visit from health inspectors last month. The report showcased the ‘pedigree’ standards of the venue, with its hygiene standards being classed as ‘excellent’.
Councillor Leigh Bramall, Sheffield City Council's Cabinet member for Environment and Transport said: “I would like to congratulate Owlerton Stadium on the superb result of their inspection. For a business to achieve a high score like this is impressive, there is a strict set of criteria that we look for when scoring businesses - such as hygiene, structure and management processes - and Owlerton met all of them.”
Head chef Nick Middleton said: “Health and hygiene are of the utmost importance to us at the Stadium and it’s really encouraging to have official recognition of that by the Council. We pride ourselves on the standard of food here and it just goes to show that it’s not just the racing greyhounds at the Stadium that are top class, but the hygiene standards as well!”
