Mon 18th Jan 10 New Opening: Lokanta

Ruth and Faruk Günay have opened a new Turkish restaurant, Lokanta at 478 Glossop Road, Broomhill, Sheffield S10 2QA. Ruth grew up in Sheffield, met Faruk on holiday in Turkey and lived with him there for almost ten years. Faruk is originally from Ankara and ran bars and restaurants in the resort of Kemer near Antalya on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. The couple’s ambition is to bring high quality Turkish food to Ruth’s home in Sheffield.

Lokanta means restaurant in Turkish and describes the kind of place where absolutely everybody eats with friends, family or colleagues. Meze are Turkish tapas style dishes and Lokanta in Sheffield has a range of freshly prepared meze which can be enjoyed at any time of day with a drink or as starters to an a la carte meal. Lokanta offers Turkish wine and beer which are the perfect accompaniment.

The head chef at Lokanta is Hasan Yaman who has come from the Baia hotel group in Turkey and was recruited by Ruth and Faruk to run their kitchen. Hasan specialises in modern Turkish cooking and is very excited to be working on this new venture in England.

We look forward to welcoming you...
